We are interested in art, historic buildings, Vatican history, the typical things people go to Rome to see I think. Our cruise starts on October 7. We don't have a set number of days we want to be there prior though. We were just thinking about two or three depending on what we could see in that time. It'll just be me and my husband.
Can you tell me what else you need from us? I'd like to book our flights but how many days early we arrive will depend on what we're going to do. Also, can you recommend a hotel for us for while we're in Rome and one closer to the port for cruise day?
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy (07 Oct d2000); Cagliari, Sardinia (09 Oct 0900-1800); Marina di Carrara, Italy (11 Oct 0800-2000); Ajaccio, Corsica (12 Oct 0800-1700); Cannes, France (13 Oct 0900-2100); Valencia, Spain (15 Oct 0800-1800); Barcelona, Spain (16 Oct a0630)
Arrive in Rome on October 6th
I suggest a hotel like Hotel Ponte Sisto, or something in the area as it is really convenient if you want to walk around on your own for dinner or anything.
Some great restaurants in that area for typical Roman food of good quality: Sottosopra Trastevere, Tonnarello Scala, Otello, Tonnarello, La Tavernetta 29. Rome has traditional Trattoria style restaurants that are an experience in real Roman flair. They are often located in the Trastevere area.
EUR 360 total price for up to 4 hours private service or E 300 total price for 2 hours
You choose the pick up time and location. The 4 hours tour will give you more time at each stop. At the end you can be dropped of at any location in Rome.
Possible Itinerary:
Our driver will pick up you up wherever you want, in a Hotel or apartment and from there you will begin your journey through the history and myths of the eternal city.
Possible Itinerary that would last 4 hours: The Tour will begin with a visit of the Colosseum (outside) or Flavian Amphitheater, whose construction was opened in '80 with the games that lasted 100 days and saw the massacre of five thousand wild beast. We will pass the Roman Forum, cultural, artistic and religious center of ancient Rome.
We will continue guiding you through the Venice Square, where you can admire the Vittoriano or Altare della Patria ("the wedding cake") built and designed by Giuseppe Sacconi in 1885 and the famous balcony where Benito Mussolini spoke to the people and declared the Italian entry into World War II against France and Great Britain.
Moving on to Via del Corso we will stop at the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
We will continue with the fantastic view of Rome from Pincio and descend from Popolo Square, the famous square rebuilt entirely between 1811 and 1816 by the famous architect Valadier. We will stop at the Pantheon, the Temple of all gods, built by Marcus Agrippa in 27 BC and entirely rebuilt by Hadrian.
Last stop of our tour will be at Navona Square, corresponding to the Stadium of Domitian, where you can admire the Fountain of Neptune (Giacomo della Porta - 1586) and the imposing Church of St. Agnes in Agony of Borromini.
At the end of your tour our driver will take you back to your Hotel or leave you where you want.

EUR 495 total price for 2 people
The driver will pick you up at your hotel and while keeping the luggage in the vehicle, he will take you on a custom tour of Rome before dropping you off at the Port.
The Itinerary for the night tour is quite rushed, if you do it in 2 hours is more like a drive by and a picture stop. In 4 hours you will have some time to stop and walk around, but not much. So if you were planning on doing both days I could tell the driver to organize the tour over 8 hours focusing on making sure that at night he takes you to the places that are more picture perfect when the evening illuminates them and during the day where you may want to stop more to explore the side allays to shop or sample food. You could also add a stop to the Vatican museums for a tour (this takes 3 hours) or the inside of the Colosseum would take 1 to 1.5 hours. Tickets would have additional cost.
Here are other locations that are super interesting and are often not included
Roman Catacombs - A great option is exploring underground Rome with a visit to the Priscilla Catacombs, where ancient tunnels and early Christian frescoes reveal centuries of history. You can choose from the following time slots : 10:30 am 12:00 PM.
Roman Crypts - For a different experience, visit the Capuchin Crypt, a unique and eerie site adorned with the bones of Capuchin monks—a fascinating reflection on life and mortality. Private 1h tours can be organized at 8:45 pm and 8:00 pm

Meeting point at the port of Cannes. The chauffeur will be there with a sign board. Very easy to find him.
The tour starts 30 minutes after the ship arrives in the bay, but he will wait for you.
You drive a bit in Cannes to see the main part of the town (Film Festival, seafront…). Then you drive on the highway to Nice and cross the town by the seafront. Depending on the traffic you can stop in Eze and after Monaco, or Monaco first and Eze on the way back. You drive mostly on the lower Corniche (seafront) and the middle Corniche for the panoramic views. You usually also walk with the chauffeur in Monaco, Monte-Carlo and Eze and he give you some free time for lunch or shopping.
Eze is a hilltop medieval village. The access is not easy for people having mobility issues. Not so many stairs, but you walk up for about 10 minutes.
